The other day I was doing my usual patrol by the sea, casually sniffing the surroundings. And then it hit me. There was this big bowl of salty water, but there was no tap anywhere. Then where does all this water come from? There is no doubt, it is a case that needs to be thoroughly sniffestigated!
Before my tail could even wag, my nose was already stuck to the ground and on the case. I sniffed every stone on the beach and found something very interesting. There was a pattern! The closer I got to the water’s edge, the clearer it became. Every stone was wet! I could smell a great discovery in the making! The wet trail led me past the big grey rocks. Suddenly, my ears caught a quiet gurgle-gurgle sound. I looked down, and BAM. There it was! Secret revealed!
At the edge of the rocks I discovered the secret tap! The water was bubbling right out of the ground, as if someone had buried a garden hose down there and left the tap running. My mum had done that a few times, but she was not nearly as successful. I guess we don’t have that much water at home, so she pours the water for the cats and me in our small bowls. I guess fish drink a lot of water, so they need a bigger bowl. Is this the tap that fills it? There was only one way to find out. A proper taste test!
I approached the bubbly puddle cautiously, twitching my nose in anticipation. A quick lap of the stream confirmed my hypothesis: it was completely fresh, salty water, just like the water in the big bowl. My greatest theory yet was confirmed. This was the tap where all this water came from!
Another big mystery solved and another breakthrough in planetary physics: Earth is just a floating mud-ball inside an oversized, undrinkable water bowl.
Case closed!
